St. Patrick’s Day Makeup

29257658_1639607176092360_110750791198834688_n

Anyone that knows me, knows that I like to go all out for holidays. I tend to show up for work dressed for the occasion, and St. Patty’s Day was no exception! I got some laughs and some funny looks, but it was all in good fun.

All products used for this look – with the exception of the green shadows – were LimeLight by Alcone products. As for the green shimmery shadows, those were Mica Bella shadows. I used three different shades to create the eye look, and just one shade of the shadow to create that shimmery green lip color. The lips turned out like a metallic liquid lipstick, and I love how it ended up filling out the look!

How to recreate the look:

I always start by moisturizing and priming my face. I use Must Dew to moisturize, and First Base Primer to prep my face for makeup. Then I go in and apply my foundation, and concealer to highlight. I do my brows next, and clean up around the brows with concealer. Once that step is done, I’m ready to go in with my bronzer, blush, and translucent powder.

Once the face is good to go, I then move to the eyes. I applied all of my shadows with a little spritz of primer on my brushes to maximize the color impact. I used a lighter shade of green to apply it all over my lid and in the center of the lower lash line. Once most of the color was on the lid, I gently blended it upward a bit. Then you take the slightly darker green and apply that with a new brush to the outer corner of the eye, and blend inward about halfway across the lid.

Again once most of the product is where you want it, blend upward slightly and in and around the crease. Next you take a really dark green using a fine crease brush and apply it basically in an outward V where your winged liner goes. Blend that inward a bit, and up and around the crease. You take that shade along the bottom lash line until it meets the other shade you applied earlier, and blend. Lastly, you can take a yellow to the inner corner of the eye and the beginning of the lower lash line. This last step is optional, but I liked the way it turned out. After you’re done all of these steps, you want to go back in and just make sure everything is well blended.

Once you are satisfied with the shadow look, it’s time for the stars of the show. You first go in with your liquid liner to line the lash line, and then do your wing. Next up is mascara, and I usually do two coats for more drama. If you feel the light green got overpowered on the lid, you can go back in on the inner corner of the lid with that light green shade.

PRO TIP: If you made a mistake with the liner, you can go in with your concealer to fix your line. You will want to use a good concealer brush for this so that you can be precise.

PRO TIP: If you accidentally got mascara on the shadow, leave it there for a minute and let it dry. Then take a brow brush or spoolie and gently brush over the spot of mascara. It will pull off the mascara without wrecking your makeup!

This metallic lip color was actually super simple to create. I basically just applied my nude lipstick to prime my lips and give the loose shadow something to cling to. Then I just went in with my middle green shadow color and applied it with a damp brush on top of the lipstick. I applied my finishing spray to finish out the look, and it did have pretty decent staying power. I had to reapply the shadow a bit in the afternoon after eating an apple, but that is to be expected when you have shadows on your lips and you eat something like that.

I just love the way this look turned out! If you decide to recreate it, come back and share your results! I’d love to see other approaches.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The Difference Between “Luxury Cosmetics” and Professional Cosmetics

I would like to start out by saying I honestly did love my old makeup. I had no idea that there was a problem until this week when I decided to slap a before and after together, and holy smokes… Mind. Blowing. This totally validates my decision to join the LimeLight family.

29216979_2050637638483775_3594829760657620992_n.jpgPicture 1: This is from about a month or so before I started using Limelight products. Note that my foundation was definitely too dark or had oxidized (I used the lightest shade available in the line), and note how big my pores look.  Go on, zoom in a little and you’ll really see it.

I used a primer always, yet still hated the end result in photos because I could see all the little bumps. I had stopped taking selfies as much since last August because I thought it was because of my new phone, which is a much smaller screen and therefore had a smaller camera. I didn’t notice anything I didn’t like in the mirror, so when I was seeing it in my phone, I assumed it HAD to be the phone…

Picture 2: This is WITHOUT a primer – just LimeLight foundation and a small amount of concealer in a few spots to highlight. I finally have a shade light enough for my skin, and my skin looks FLAWLESS – no more visible pore bumps. Putting these photos side by side blew my mind because it was only in that moment that I realized the problem hadn’t been my camera all along – the problem was my foundation.

ZERO editing done to both images (except for putting the pictures together and the text additions of course).

You guys…

THIS is the difference that professional products makes.

THIS is why I decided to join this company.

And this is why I can’t wait for you to be introduced to these amazing products.

If you haven’t already, please RSVP to my launch event! I, along with two other power-houses, will be going LIVE to demonstrate the application of these products. Andrea will be walking you through the importance of a great skincare routine, Nikki will be walking you through everything to do with your complexion, and I will be walking you through beautiful eye makeup for both day and night!

I hope to see you there :)

Why you Need LimeLight by Alcone’s Botanical Foundation in your Life!

7803d8bc41e29c8904afb049d9d099e1

The LimeLight by Alcone botanical foundation was designed for professional makeup artists. This is the TOP selling professional foundation in the world, and it has existed for over 50 years. It will give you FULL coverage and a smooth, even complexion without absorbing into your skin. This means it will not break you out or cause a reaction because it has been formulated to be non-comedogenic.

Typical foundations that you can purchase in stores are about 8-22% pigmentation, and this stuff is 50% pigmentation. 8% pigmentation is basically your BB cream, lower coverage type of foundation. 22% pigmentation is about the fullest coverage you are going to get from a retail setting. When you use LimeLight by Alcone Botanical Foundation with the 50% pigmentation, you are going to need a lot less product to achieve an even complexion and the look that you are striving for.

You would use half as much product, or less, with this foundation as other foundations you have tried in the past. You should start by toning it way back, and gradually add more product if needed. To help you transition to using less product, you can try using a fluffy powder brush to apply instead of a beauty blender or a buffer brush. This method is perfect for beginners!

You may be wondering… “What if a wax based foundation doesn’t work for my skin type?”

Your skin type is irrelevant. As I stated above, this foundation has been formulated for professional makeup artists. As such, the botanical foundation has specifically been formulated to work with EVERY skin type. That ranges from super dry to super oily skin types, so no matter where you fall on that spectrum, you will be able to use this specific foundation. That being said, let’s look at each:

DRY: If you have skin that is excessively dry, there are things you can do to help with that. It is important that you exfoliate your skin regularly to clean up some of that dead skin cells. Otherwise, if you have a lot of dry skin patches it will not matter what type of foundation you are using, you will find that you notice those spots more. You should also be moisturizing your skin prior to applying the foundation. Lastly, you can use the “10 Years Younger” finishing spray to finish off your look and set your makeup.

OILY: In contrast, if you have oily skin you will likely want to pair your foundation with a pressed powder. It is really important that you use a translucent pressed powder with this foundation as opposed to a pigmented powder. The botanical foundation is highly pigmented already, so you do not need more pigment on your face. You also want to be careful that you don’t use a product on top of the foundation that might cause an oxidation issue. Lastly, you can leverage the “Oil Strike” setting spray to finish off your look. This is a phenomenal product, and if you start to get oily throughout the day it will actually stop the oil production in your face for that day.

Because you need so little product for each application, one foundation pan could last you between four and six months. This varies depending on your usage, and if you’re a makeup every day person or an occasional wearer. In general, people who wear makeup 5-7 days out of the week will get between 5 and 6 months out of their foundation. You will not find another foundation of this quality, for this price, that will last you this long in any department stores!

Do you have blemishes or dark circles that you really want to cover? If the answer here 37e4196542989e3d24f8d38448e162a9is yes, you should consider getting the custom palette with a foundation and two concealers. This saves you money off the total, and you’ll be able to use a concealing concealer on those difficult areas as well as have a brightening concealer for a bit of highlighting. Alternatively, you could also do a highlighting and contouring concealer. Once again, you need very little product for full coverage, so one concealer pan will last you a long time.

This foundation has been formulated to last all day, while maintaining a healthy glow. It is super lightweight and gives you a natural sheen as thought you aren’t even wearing makeup. Because you use such a small amount of product, you barely notice it is there.

If you go ahead and try the products, make sure that you moisturize your skin before applying the foundation if you are choosing not to use a primer. That being said, if you usually use a silicone primer, it will NOT work with this foundation. What I mean by this is the clear looking gel primers that make your skin feel super soft. This will not work under this foundation because it creates a layer on the skin that keeps it from setting properly, which results in transfer. If you want to use a primer, you should ensure that you are using a spray primer.

If you are considering trying out these products, start by asking yourself some questions:

  • What issues do you have with your skin?
  • What are you looking to do with your makeup?
  • What issues are you having with your current makeup?

Once you have answers to these questions, bring them to your Beauty Guide to have them help match you with the right product(s) for you. If I am the first Beauty Guide to expose you to these awesome products, I would be more than happy to help match you! I can also help with color matching, and all I need is whether you burn or tan more easily and a picture of you in natural light. Simply use the contact form above and I can get you some help!

Why does my makeup leave a dark line around my face throughout the day?

Have you ever had that experience where you apply your makeup in the morning and your foundation seems to match your skin tone perfectly, and then later in the day it gets darker and darker?

This is oxidation, and it can cause an orange or yellow-ish looking line around your face where your foundation stops.

vJ3L3onOxidation is a chemical reaction that occurs when in contact with oxygen and the natural heat from your skin. Apples turn brown when exposed to oxygen, and your foundation can do something similar. Throughout the day, it can become a shade or two dark if it oxidizes. The picture to the left is an example of two different shades of foundation and what they look like when oxidized. The bottom shows freshly applied, while the top shows oxidized.

If you want to avoid this type of reaction, you should be looking for a non-comedogenic foundation like LimeLight by Alcone’s botanical foundation. The botanical foundation has been formulated NOT to oxidize, so if you apply it alone it will not oxidize throughout the day and cause your makeup to turn colors. That being said, if you add another product with pigmentation to it, then it could oxidize throughout the day and cause that orange foundation line from the other product. You definitely do not want that to happen to you.

If you need to use a powder on top of your foundation, you can use a translucent powder. This will give you the matte look you are after and help set your foundation, and it will keep your makeup from oxidizing. If you are new to hearing about the botanical foundation, you can learn more about it here.

For all the ladies out there living in a man’s world.

Normally I like to avoid all drama and controversy, but I honestly feel as though this is something that needs to be said.

It has recently been brought to my attention that there have been things being said about me behind my back with respect to my appearance, and I know that I am not alone. This kind of thing happens every single day, to thousands of women around the world. It is honestly baffling to me that people can be so catty and cruel over something so trivial. Why do we care about the height of the shoes someone is wearing, or the fact that someone wears makeup in an office of people that typically don’t wear much makeup? Unfortunately, we live in a world where it isn’t easy to just be yourself and do what makes you happy – because someone will always be there to try and bring you down.

I’ve noticed that both women and men alike are guilty of this kind of negative behaviour, so it is not just any one gender. Agree or disagree, that is your prerogative. However, these are my thoughts:

Ladies; If a woman takes pride in her appearance, wears makeup, dresses well, wears heels, whatever the case may be; it by no means correlates to her being sexually promiscuous. Sure, some people that do those things probably would fall into that category. However, I know from personal experience that it is quite possible for someone to NOT be a “slut” and to still take pride in their appearance. In my case, I do it because I lost 60 pounds. I am confident again and I feel better about myself, so I like to demonstrate that in the way that I carry myself and the way that I dress. The moral of the story here is that until you take the time to get to know a person, you have no right to make snap judgments about them based solely on appearance. I know, it is cliche, but you should not judge a book by its cover. We, as women, need to STOP the judging and bringing each other down. There are enough men out there in the world that take care of that for us lol. Instead, we need to be raising each other up. We need to be a positive force in each others’ lives, and start being there for one another. Life is not a competition, nobody has to win or lose, so lose the edge and just LIVE.

Gentlemen; If a woman takes pride in her appearance, wears makeup, dresses well, wears heels, whatever the case may be; it does NOT mean that they are dressed that way to get your attention or approval, nor does it mean that you automatically have the go-ahead to push yourself onto her in any way. Honestly, I don’t go out to clubs very often, but when I do I usually find myself getting annoyed with at least one man who thinks that it is his god given right to lay a hand on me just because I am dressed nicely and at a club. It actually infuriates me to have a stranger come up from behind me and start grinding on me at a club. I just don’t understand the notion that it is okay to grind on a total stranger without at least introducing yourself and saying “Hey, do you want to dance?”. Six simple words – how hard is that? I’m sorry, but contrary to common belief, not every woman at a bar is there to find a man to sleep with. Some of us actually go just to dance, have a good time, and blow off some steam with some friends. Once again I revert back to the cliche, because you do not know the story behind every woman. My story involves a significant amount of weight loss. The other day I was talking to a guy, and somehow we got on the topic of appearance. I learned that he actually thought that the only reason women dress well or do their hair and makeup nicely was to please men! WRONG. Once again, obviously there will be exceptions to this and there will be women out there that do those things to please a man. However, in a lot of cases, we do it for ourselves.

For example, I didn’t lose a bunch of weight to please a man. I lost that weight because I was sick of living with depression and isolating myself from the world and everyone around me. I wanted to take my life back, regain my confidence, and start truly LIVING. I do not NEED a man, and as women, none of us do. We are strong, and we can get by without a man. In today’s society, I feel like more and more women are reverting back to old traditions and relying on men to take care of them; so much so that they are staying in dead end relationships. I am a firm believer in true love. I have zero interest in staying in a relationship with someone if I know that it is going nowhere, because it isn’t fair to you or the other person to keep pretending. Sometimes the hardest choice is actually the right choice, and though it isn’t easy to leave a bad relationship, sometimes it is exactly what you need to find yourself again.

I apologize for a bit of a rant, but I have been thinking a lot lately about these kinds of things and I felt as though I needed to get it off of my chest. I wish I knew where chivalry had gone, because I want it back! Drama and cattiness has been around for ages, and I doubt that will change anytime soon. However, if this message reaches even just one man or woman and helps him or her to change their behaviour in a more positive light – it has served its purpose.

Be kind to one another, because you never know what a person could be going through.
