Have you ever had that experience where you apply your makeup in the morning and your foundation seems to match your skin tone perfectly, and then later in the day it gets darker and darker?

This is oxidation, and it can cause an orange or yellow-ish looking line around your face where your foundation stops. 

Oxidation is a chemical reaction that occurs when in contact with oxygen and the natural heat from your skin. Apples turn brown when exposed to oxygen, and your foundation can do something similar. Throughout the day, it can become a shade or two dark if it oxidizes. The picture to the left is an example of two different shades of foundation and what they look like when oxidized. The bottom shows freshly applied, while the top shows oxidized.

If you want to avoid this type of reaction, you should be looking for a non-comedogenic foundation like LimeLight by Alcone’s botanical foundation. The botanical foundation has been formulated NOT to oxidize, so if you apply it alone it will not oxidize throughout the day and cause your makeup to turn colors. That being said, if you add another product with pigmentation to it, then it could oxidize throughout the day and cause that orange foundation line from the other product. You definitely do not want that to happen to you.

If you need to use a powder on top of your foundation, you can use a translucent powder. This will give you the matte look you are after and help set your foundation, and it will keep your makeup from oxidizing.
